DIY Steps in Removing Common Car Stains

Aside from dusts and dirt, there are also common car stains considered to be regularly threatening car seat covers and carpet. Some of these common car stains when not immediately removed could embed and solidify in our car’s upholstery.

Removing these eye-twitching car stains is not a hopeless case. Most of the time, you don’t even need to have it diagnosed by automotive shops because little did we know, we could remove them in a DIY way.

A lot of household products good stain removers. We only need to be knowledgeable enough in knowing which ones specifically clean what. To narrow them down for you and to know how to do it yourself, here are some steps in removing common car stains.

  1. Coffee Spills. In removing coffee spills, all you have to use is water and some glass cleaner. First, dilute the coffee in water using towels or rags. After which, apply a small amount of glass cleaner and have the affected area get soaked for at least five minutes. Glass cleaners prevent the discoloration made by soap residues so it is the best partner for cleaning coffee stains.
  2. Grease. Driving with kids and friends sometimes go greasy especially when taking breaks. You can remove grease stains putting paint thinner on a clean cotton towel. After rubbing the cloth on the stain, cover the stain with salt until the grease is absorbed. Leave it overnight and vacuum it in the morning.
  3. Alcohol. When alcohol spills, the concern is not only on the car’s smell but also on the stain it will bring. Not immediately removing alcohol stains will affect the color of your upholstery since it is a corrosive component. The answer is just water so have the stain diluted with water for at least ten minutes and wait for it to dry.
  4. Blood stains. Wherever it may came from, the best solution in removing them would be through a dry laundry starch and cold water. Contrary to what most people believe, hot water is not suitable for this kind of stains. As a matter of fact it will only allow the blood stain to spread. Mix the laundry starch with water and apply it on the stain. Let it dry and leave it overnight. In the morning, have it vacuumed.

Of course there are other common stains not mentioned. While DIY remedy is advisable, you also have to take note that there are already efficient car cleaners in the market that could save you time in removing the car stains you would not want to be hanging around for long.
