Parking Safety 101: Remember the Basics

A good driver knows how to be defensive while on the road. But the really good ones are those that can park their car properly without putting themselves or others at risk. Parking safety is one of the skills that new drivers struggle with.

For those who have been driving for quite some time, they think parking is as easy as ABC. But for those who are just learning how to drive, parking is one of the most difficult to do, especially when you want to make sure that you and your car are safe.

But how do you keep yourself safe while you are in the process of parking your car? Here are a few tips from the experts:

Tip 1: Don’t leave any valuables in the car. If you can’t help but leave the laptop bag inside the car because you have too many things to juggle with, then you should make sure that it is not visible to others. Keep it in the car where others will not stop to take notice of the valuable you left inside.

Tip 2: Take caution when you are walking towards your vehicle. It is highly important that you take a moment to look around you to see if there are potential risks that could put you and your car at risk for burglary. Once you get in the car, lock the doors before you start the vehicle. This is to ensure your safety in case anyone tries to enter your car without permission.

Tip 3: Never park your car at the end of the aisle. Not only can it cause a lot of discomfort because you have a long way to walk, but it also puts your car in a very vulnerable position. It is exposed to turning vehicles that could side sweep your car and cause scratches or worse dents on the car. Protect yourself and your car by avoiding these spaces.

Tip 4: Avoid talking to strangers while in the parking lot. Some of them might just be distracting you while the others are doing the dirty work. Be aware of the people in the parking lot and take note of the noises that you hear around. Sadly, the bad guys are just about everywhere.

Tip 5: Lastly, keep your hands free. If possible, make sure that the keys of the car are safety tucked into your bag to ensure that nobody gets to it without your knowledge.
